Inserting a function for velocity

I am trying to input a function for the velocity of a liquid through an inlet but I'm having some trouble.

What I am using is a step function because the liquid flows at a certain speed for 2 seconds and then stops flowing.
How can I do this?

In the inlet velocity field, would I just put "step1 (t)" which is defined as a global function?
