Velocity expression using local variables

Hi everyone, I am new to comsol and am reading one of the tutorials for electrodialysis, but I have a confusion regarding the velocity expression. The velocity expression is calculated as follows: vel((x+W_ch+W_m)). What does this expression mean. They have given the values of W_ch and W_m in the parameter section as 1 mm and 0.25 mm, respectively. I have attached here the tutorial as well. I would greatly appreciate your assistance.
