LiveLink™ for Excel® Updates

For users of LiveLink™ for Excel®, COMSOL Multiphysics® version 5.2a makes it easier to work with parameters and cell ranges. Review the LiveLink™ for Excel® updates in more detail below.

Parameters

Parameters and variables that are defined and modeled in COMSOL Multiphysics® are instantly available in Microsoft Excel® and automatically synchronized with your physics model. Parameters that are imported into a worksheet from COMSOL Multiphysics® may now include the calculated values in addition to the expressions that define the parameters. The values can be updated on the fly in Excel® in order to evaluate a set of parameters before starting a simulation.

A new preference setting called Automatic update has been introduced for parameters. When this setting is selected, any edits you make to the imported parameter cells will automatically update the model and the values for the imported parameters.

Updating an expression can immediately trigger an update of all the values, which makes it easier to configure a set of model parameters and verify that they are correct before starting a simulation. Changes to the Interpretation of Cell Ranges

When loading data from an Excel® sheet, the interpretation of a given cell range has been changed. When using a cell range, you can explicitly decide what cells are used for the import, such as "A1:B20". The previous method, which used the first cell and continued until an empty row was found, is still supported if only a single starting cell is specified (e.g., "C5").
