Hi Comsol Users

I have been working on a 3D modeling of a machine with the 'Magnetic Field' physics.

The model has 2765902 DoFs. And I am working on a computer with 8 GB RAM.

What do you think? Will it work? or Do I need more RAM?

Hi

it's probably a bit short, but the easiest is to try, you can monitor the RAM use by external tools (I use Sysinernals processexplorer) , and by observing the COMSOL line (bottom frame border), my way is to leave it go if I can come to 80% of the solver step and still be within my RAM size, a little swapping is supportable, even if it slows down the solving by an order of magnitude. The most I have done was 60% more RAM engaged than what I had readily, it took an extra hour or two.

Often the PC becomes responsless, when swapping, so I bever run on all my CPU's to be sure at least one can give me some response to kill the process, and I launch the task manager before all RAM is in use

Good luck
